Information About the British Museum

Founded in 1753, the British Museum is one of the world's pre-eminent museums focusing on human history and culture. Featuring a vast collection of over 7 million objects from all the continents of world, the collections are some of the most comprehensive in the world. The museum is located in Central London on Great Russell Street near the Russell Square Gardens. The museum houses exhibits from ancient and modern cultures the world over. Boasting one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of Egyptian and Greek antiquities, British Museum collection includes marble sculptures from the Parthenon along many artifacts from Ancient Egypt, including a collection of mummies. A visit to the museum will bring you face to face with the Rosetta Stone along with other world famous links to the ancient world, such as the Easter Island Statues. While the old world highlights much of the museum's collection, the modern era, from the 19th Century to present, is also represented with it's own galleries. Art Nouveau, the German Bauhaus movement, and Russian porcelain figures, all feature prominently in the British Museum's modern collection.
